WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS the Cherry Hill East Varsity Chess Team captured its second consecutive South Jersey High School Chess League Championship crown this season; and
WHEREAS at the Championship Tournament in February, the Varsity Team came prepared and played hard all day, battling through some of the toughest teams in the league; and
WHEREAS their success was due in part to the addition of Maryia Oreshko, one of the strongest players East has ever seen, who was integral in helping East to secure not just a league championship, but a second consecutive undefeated season, as well; and
WHEREAS we commend the entire varsity team: Coach Gregory Rouen and players Max DuBoff, Maryia Oreshko, Ed Shu, Shrihari Shankar and Yoni Weiss, for all their hard work and dedication, which have made our entire community proud; and
WHEREAS Cherry Hill East High School has supported the chess program, and in so doing has furthered its mission to improve the academic achievement of every student by offering programs that enable every student to achieve his or her optimal potential.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby wish to formally recognize and congratulate the members of the
Cherry Hill East Chess Team
for their impressive performance at the South Jersey High School Chess League Championship, and ask that all residents join with me and Township Council in congratulating the coach and members of the Cherry Hill East Chess Team on their many accomplishments and for bringing such positive attention to Cherry Hill by proudly representing their community.
