WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy individuals; and
WHEREASon Nov. 11, 2014, citizens across the United States came together to honor the service and sacrifice of our Armed Services on Veterans Day; and
WHEREAS tonight, Cherry Hill Township wishes to honor one of our own hometown heroes, Woodcrest resident Jay Pober, who enlisted in the Navy Reserves following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001; and
WHEREAS for eight years, from 2003-2011, Jay was deployed to several locations, including Qatar, Afghanistan and in the Horn of Africa, serving the United States in the Office of Naval Intelligence; and
WHEREAS today, Jay uses the skills he learned as an intelligence officer as the head of a technology group with Capital One, and spends a significant amount of time helping fellow veterans secure jobs through the “Hiring Heroes” program; and
WHEREAS from his pre-military service as a volunteer firefighter, through his tours of duty with the Navy, to his work assisting fellow veterans today, Jay has always been willing to answer the call of duty, and always the first to stand up to serve others in whatever way he can; and
WHEREAS for these reasons and many more, the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township are proud to honor and thank Jay Pober for his service to the United States of America.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, November 12, 2014, to be
Jay Pober Day
in the Township of Cherry Hill and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in thanking Jay for his years of service to our nation, and for all that he continues to do to make Cherry Hill and the United States of America a better, stronger and safer place to live, work and play.
