WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy individuals; and
WHEREAS today, the Cherry Hill community is proud to celebrate and honor Staff Sgt. John DeYoung as he returns from a tour of duty in Afghanistan as a member of the United States Air Force; and
WHEREAS Staff Sgt. DeYoung is a native of Cherry Hill’s Willowdale neighborhood, where his parents, Mark and Liz, still live, and a graduate of Paul VI High School, and truly represents the best that our community has to offer; and
WHEREAS throughout the history of the United States, American veterans such as Staff Sgt. DeYoung have served selflessly and with honor, and they deserve our deepest gratitude and respect; and
WHEREAS in this season of Thanksgiving, in particular, we are grateful for the men and women of the Armed Forces who are willing to risk their lives in the name of our continued life, freedom and national security, and for the safe return of all those who serve; and
WHEREAS the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township are honored to join with Staff Sgt. DeYoung’s family, friends, neighbors, the Yellow Ribbon Club, and other community organizations, to shower him with our love and admiration, and give him the homecoming he deserves.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim Saturday, November 29, 2014, to be
Staff Sgt. John DeYoung Day
in the Township of Cherry Hill and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in warmly welcoming Staff Sgt. DeYoung home, in thanking him for his service to the United States of America, and in wishing him continued health and safety as he continues to protect our nation both at home and abroad.
