WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS this year, the Friends of Barclay Farmstead will celebrate their 40th anniversary; and
WHEREAS the Friends were established in late 1975 to “promote and further the restoration of the Barclay Farmstead … and to raise and expend funds for the preparation, equipment, and maintenance of the said premises for charitable, educational and recreational purposes”; and
WHEREAS some 387 community members joined the Friends as Charter Members, and through the years, its members have acquired the various historical furnishings and artifacts seen within the farmhouse and its outbuildings; and
WHEREAS in the last 40 years, the Friends have hosted Holiday Houses, house tours, luncheons, festivals, craft and nature programs, and supported the Living History School Tour Program, the Barclay Farm Quilters, and the Barclay Garden Club; and
WHEREAS from the Farmstead’s early days with no heat and no water, the Friends have been instrumental in the Farmstead’s growth into an educational and historic gem that generations of Cherry Hill residents have enjoyed, and will continue to celebrate for years to come.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby wish to commemorate the
Friends of Barclay Farmstead
and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in thanking the Friends of Barclay Farmstead for their continued stewardship of our beloved Barclay Farmstead , and for the countless ways in which they’ve helped to enrich Cherry Hill and celebrate our living history.
