WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS March 1 is the National Education Association’s “Read Across America” Day, a national celebration of Dr. Seuss’s 109th birthday that promotes reading and adult involvement in the education of our community’s children; and
WHEREAS Mayor Chuck Cahn and Township Council believe literacy is key to the community's well-being and long-term quality of life, and will participate in “Read Across America” events in our schools in the week leading up to March 1; and
WHEREASCherry Hill’s award-winning public school district provides our children with the highest-quality education, and the ideal setting to create that solid foundation for a life-long love of learning and reading; and
WHEREASCherry Hill Township stands firmly committed to promoting reading as a catalyst for our students' future academic success, their preparation for America's jobs of the future, and their ability to compete in a global economy.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby recognize the week of Feb. 25 to March 1, 2013, as
Read Across America Week
in the Township of Cherry Hill and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in recommitting ourselves to promoting literacy among our children, and in celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Seuss by reading with our children this week, and always.
