WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS in 1973, resident Joe Zanghi and several other community members planted the first cherry trees along a two-mile stretch of Chapel Avenue in Cherry Hill, to promote community pride and unite residents around the beautiful blooms; and
WHEREAS for 40 years, the trees have served as a visual reminder of spring, and of those men and women who work hard every day to make our community strong; and
WHEREAS this year, with the help of numerous donors and the Cherry Hill Fire Department, 37 new cherry trees were planted between Kings Highway and Haddonfield Road, completing the initial vision for Chapel Avenue; and
WHEREAS today, we have come together to celebrate the completion of this project, and thank Mr. Zanghi for his years of dedication to promoting Cherry Hill as a wonderful place to live, work and play.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim April 21, 2013, as
Cherry Blossom Day
in the Township of Cherry Hill and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in celebrating the trees and their larger significance in our community, and in thanking Joe Zanghi for his continued dedication to promoting and beautifying Cherry Hill.
