WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to recognize important occasions and events; and
WHEREAS the Holocaust was the state-sponsored, systematic persecution and annihilation of six million Jews and countless others between 1933 and 1945; and
WHEREAS the history of the Holocaust provides a reminder of the moral responsibilities of individuals, societies, and governments; and
WHEREAS we the people of Cherry Hill should always remember the terrible events of the Holocaust, remain vigilant against hatred, persecution, and tyranny, and actively rededicate ourselves to the principles of individual freedom in a just society; and
WHEREAS the United States Holocaust Memorial Council has designated the week of April 15 to April 22, 2012, as Days of Remembrance, to reflect on the need for respect of all peoples; and
WHEREAS the Mayor and Council strongly support the Goodwin Holocaust Museum & Education Center and the initiatives and events made available to the community through the Center;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby designate the week of April 15 to April 22, 2012 as
Holocaust Remembrance Days
in Cherry Hill, and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in remembering the victims of the Holocaust and honoring the survivors, as well as their rescuers and liberators. We further proclaim that we as citizens of Cherry Hill Township should work to promote human dignity and confront hate whenever and wherever it occurs.
