Independence Day Celebration
June 21, 2005 From Mayor Bernie Platt
Each day Americans enjoy many liberties. We celebrate our freedom and independence each July 4th and must remember that our country was founded to preserve liberty. As we mark our 229th year as a nation, I am reminded of the words of President John F. Kennedy, "Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and success of liberty."
Our Township will celebrate liberty and honor our country in July. Each summer, Cherry Hill hosts a spectacular July 4th celebration. We come together to mark our nation’s independence and to gather as a community. Our free Fourth of July observance will be held at the Michael J. Santarpio, Jr. Memorial Field at Jonas Morris Stadium at Cherry Hill High School West on Chapel Avenue, Monday, July 4 (rain date July 5). Gates open at 7 p.m. and the program begins at 8 p.m. followed by fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
This is a wonderful patriotic evening for the whole family to enjoy. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a fabulous performance and a brilliant fireworks display. Our musical entertainment this year will be Beatlemania Now, a musical revue of classic Beatles tunes. You can take a break from the entertainment to enjoy treats available for sale including: hot dogs, ice cream, pretzels and water ice. I hope you are able to join us for an exciting evening of July 4th fun.
