The Cherry Hill Alliance on Alcohol & Drug Abuse presents

PARENT UNIVERSITY

Tuesday, October 13
7 - 8:30 p.m.
Cherry Hill Public Library
1100 Kings Highway North

A. "A Story of Hope, Healing and Recovery" - Randy Brooks Miller, RN-BC

As a mental health professional and mother of a young adult who is an addict in long term recovery, I will share my story of our journey. I will focus on the effects of substance abuse and addiction on the family, and I will include strategies for family members to utilize with vulnerable adolescents. I will share what is possible for growth and recovery for everyone in the family. Participants will also receive information about available resources.

B. "“Bullying and QPR prevention” - Gina Demonte, Student Assistance Counselor, Rosa International Middle School

In this workshop, you will learn about the NJ anti-bullying legislation, cyber bullying, the policy and procedures followed in Cherry Hill public schools as well as how to keep your child from becoming involved in bullying. QPR (Question, Persuade & Refer) and the suicide prevention policy in Cherry Hill public schools will also be addressed.

C. “Why E-cigarettes are gaining popularity and what you need to know” - Captain Amy Winters, Cherry Hill Police Department

A brief introduction will start this informal discussion about when/where e-cigs were developed, their attraction to young persons, and how they were initially designed as an alternative to smoking for those trying to quit but how they are now attracting new smokers specifically with the teens and young adult population. Captain Amy Winters will provide statistics about the harmful effects and the smoking laws in NJ. Plus the alternative uses that children are using them for and what the vapors can do.

Please choose only ONE workshop.

Spaces are limited in workshops.
Sponsored by the Cherry Hill Alliance on Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
