WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS friends, family and colleagues have come together to honor longtime educator Martin Sharofsky, as he retires following a 41-year career in the Cherry Hill School District; and
WHEREAS Martin has spent his entire career in Cherry Hill, beginning his work as a teacher at Thomas Paine Elementary School in 1975, and continuing as an educator at Johnson, Erlton, Barton, Kingston and Sharp schools in the years that followed; and
WHEREAS His influence has extended beyond the classroom, as well, on many trips to Mount Misery with his 6th grade classes, and helping his students prepare for events such as the Geography Bee and Olympics of the Mind; and
WHEREAS in recent years, Martin was a leader in the Cherry Hill Education Association, serving as president of the organization since 2007; and
WHEREAS in addition to his work with Cherry Hill’s schools and CHEA, Martin and his wife, Barbara, have been residents of this community since 1994, and their students are all graduates of Cherry Hill East; and
WHEREAS as Martin prepares to begin a new chapter in his life, we wish to celebrate his contributions to our school system and our children.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby wish to honor and recognize
Martin Sharofsky
As he retires from the Cherry Hill School District, and do urge all citizens to join with me and the members of Township Council in expressing our gratitude for the positive influence Martin’s work has had on hundreds of students throughout his career.
