WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS Cherry Hill Township and the entire South Jersey community are honored to welcome Anat Hoffman, a civil rights pioneer, chairperson of the Board for Women of the Wall, and executive director of the Israel Religious Action Center, for a special reception and presentation at Temple Emanuel; and
WHEREAS throughout her life and career, Anat has worked tirelessly to promote Jewish pluralism, tolerance and equality and combat racism, corruption and religious coercion, and truly lived a life dedicated to Tikkun Olam; and
WHEREAS in a city where women are traditionally consigned to a subordinate role, Anat has been relentless in her quest to break barriers, serving as a City Councilwoman for 14 years, and leading the fight for equal pay for equal work and the right of women to pray at the Western Wall; and
WHEREAS additionally, Anat was a strong advocate for the provision of adequate municipal services for the more than 200,000 Palestinian residents in Jerusalem, and has fought tirelessly to ensure representation for Jerusalem’s secular population; and
WHEREAS the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township express our deepest thanks to Rabbi Jerome and Peggy David and Jack and Carol Sattin, the co-chairs whose leadership make this evening with Anat Hoffman possible for our community; and
WHEREAS we also wish to express our tremendous excitement, pride and gratitude to Anat for sharing her time, wisdom, insight and experience with all of us, as part of this tremendous event.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby wish to welcome
Anat Hoffman
into the Cherry Hill community, and do urge all citizens to join with me and the members of Township Council at expressing our sincerest thanks to Anat for visiting our community, and for sharing her wisdom and insight with all those gathered at Temple Emanuel for this special occasion.
