Cherry Hill receives $151K Clean Communities Grant

(Cherry Hill, N.J.) – Cherry Hill has been awarded a $151,688 Clean Communities Grant to help keep local roadways clean, beautify neighborhoods and preserve and enhance open space, Mayor Chuck Cahn has announced.

The Township’s award is the highest in South Jersey, and the 11th highest in the state. Grant totals are based on the number of housing units in a municipality and the number of miles of municipally owned roadways within each town.

Funds can be used for projects such as neighborhood and community clean-up activities; cleanups of stormwater systems; equipment purchases; enforcement of local anti-littering ordinances, and public information and educational outreach programs.

“Since 2012, my administration has been awarded nearly $4 million in grant dollars to use for infrastructure projects, facilities enhancements and other important programs to improve our community,” Mayor Cahn said. “I am thrilled that Cherry Hill has received yet another substantial award, through the Clean Communities Grant, to support important quality-of-life initiatives throughout the Township.”

The Clean Communities Grant, awarded by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, is among $20.8 million being given to municipalities and counties throughout New Jersey. The grants are overseen by the nonprofit New Jersey Clean Communities, and funded by a legislated user-fee on manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors that produce litter-generating products.
