WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of the Township of Cherry Hill to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS as we honor the 2014-15 Cherry Hill East Cougars, we must also recognize the tremendous play of East Senior Jake Silpe, a point guard who helped lead the Cougars to the best season in the program’s history; and
WHEREAS Silpe, who was recently named South Jersey Player of the Year by the Philadelphia Inquirer, is the Cougars’ second all-time leading scorer, with 1,577 points in his career; and
WHEREAS additionally, Silpe holds the school records for the number of steals in a game (11) and steals in a season, with 319 total; and
WHEREAS a 1st Team All-Conference player, Silpe’s confident, intelligent play has inspired his teammates and coach, and helped to spark the most successful stretch of play in the history of the East Boys Basketball program, including 3 trips to the South Jersey Finals, 2 South Jersey Championships, 1 Olympic Conference Championship, and the program’s first-ever shot at the Group IV New Jersey State Final; and
WHEREAS in his four years at Cherry Hill East, Jake Silpe has been a team leader and a special player whose good sportsmanship, remarkable talent and passion have set him apart from the rest, and we are proud to acknowledge his achievements.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill in the County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim Monday, March 23, 2015, to be
Jake Silpe Day
in the Township of Cherry Hill, and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in congratulating the Cherry Hill East Senior on a remarkable career and senior season, and in wishing him all the best as he continues his career at the University of Pennsylvania, and beyond.
