WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and events; and
WHEREAS Preeclampsia, including HELLP syndrome and eclampsia, is a dangerous condition of pregnancy that can, in its severest form, lead to maternal and/or infant mortality or premature birth with significant health risks for the mother and baby; and
WHEREAS as many as 320,000 cases of preeclampsia are diagnosed in America every year with approximately 25% resulting in severe, life-threatening consequences to a pregnant woman and her baby; and
WHEREAS public education as to the signs and symptoms of preeclampsia, HELLP syndrome, and eclampsia can help women recognize the condition and seek appropriate medical care; and
WHEREAS citizens of Cherry Hill Township have joined with the Preeclampsia Foundation to raise public awareness in order to minimize maternal and infant illness and death due to preeclampsia; and
WHEREAS the Mayor and Council are honored to host The Promise Walk for Preeclampsia in Cherry Hill, and strongly support the initiatives and progression of Preeclampsia research and awareness.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim May as
Preeclampsia Awareness Month
in the Township of Cherry Hill and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in helping to spread awareness of the signs and symptoms of preeclampsia, HELLP syndrome and eclampsia throughout our community, and in thanking the organizers of the 2015 Promise Walk for their continued efforts to this end.
