WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS the Rosa International Middle School MATHCOUNTS Team, coached by Mr. Kevin Chen and Mr. Scott Goldthorp, placed first at the 32nd annual MATHCOUNTS South Jersey regional competition; and
WHEREAS Rosa’s MATHCOUNTS Team – Kevin Hu, Katrina Chen, Harrison Yang, and Andy Zhong– advanced to the state competition in March to compete against other schools throughout the state with an opportunity to advance to the national competition in May; and
WHEREAS the Rosa MATHCOUNTS Team, Mr. Chen and Mr. Goldthorp worked together in quizzes and drills to develop teamwork and skills that prepared them to advance to the regional and state competitions; and
WHEREAS the students competed against over 130 students from fourteen schools across six counties during the five-hour Nationwide MATHCOUNTS competition; and
WHEREAS Cherry Hill is home to many accomplished students who set an impressive standard for their peers, and the Mayor and Council wish to commend the Rosa Middle School MATHCOUNTS Team, Mr. Chen and Mr. Goldthorp, on their hard work, dedication, and their impressive achievement of first place at the regional competition and their advancement to the state competition.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim Monday, February 23, 2015, as
Rosa International Middle School MATHCOUNTS Team Day
in the Township of Cherry Hill and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in congratulating the Rosa MATHCOUNTS Team for their tremendous effort and success in the regional competition.
