WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS today, as the Cherry Hill Public Library honors its longest-serving employees, we wish to pay special tribute to Librarian Susan Tomkiel, as she prepares to retire; and
WHEREAS for more than 40 years, Susan has been a beloved member of the CHPL family, who has shown a tremendous commitment to enhancing the lives of men, women and children in our community through literacy; and
WHEREAS through the years, Susan’s dedication to the library and its mission has changed the lives of thousands of people across Cherry Hill, and her work has helped our local library grow from a building of books and computers into the true heart of our town; and
WHEREAS regarded by her colleagues as a devoted coworker, a kind professional, and a well-respected member of the Cherry Hill Public Library, Susan will be deeply missed by those of us who have come to know her; and
WHEREAS librarians are special individuals who help change lives, enrich and shape communities, address local issues, and educate individuals in ways that go far beyond a classroom – qualities embodied by Susan – and we are proud to honor her service to Cherry Hill Township.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby declare Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, to be
Susan Tomkiel Day
in the Township of Cherry Hill, and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in thanking Susan for her years of service to Cherry Hill Township and the Cherry Hill Public Library, and in wishing her all the best as she embarks upon a new chapter in life.
