Township to celebrate ADA-accessible upgrades at Barclay Farmstead on Nov. 2

Join Cherry Hill Township this Sunday, Nov. 2, as we celebrate the the installation of a new ADA-accessible walkway at the historic Barclay Farmstead. Township officials will host a special ribbon-cutting at 12:30, in addition to guided tours of the historic farmstead from noon to 4 p.m.

This project, which was funded in part by a Camden County Open Space Preservation Trust Fund Grant and a Community Development Block Grant through HUD, will provide greater accessibility to one of our Township’s historic treasures.

Cherry Hill Township is dedicated to program accessibility for all individuals and sought to carefully modify the historic property so that it could be used to its full potential. By bringing the Farmstead in line with the ADA and Township’s accessibility standards, the site is now available for greater educational, recreational and cultural opportunities. Most importantly, the Township, with the support and input of the Friends of Barclay Farmstead, was able to maintain the historic integrity and character of the Farmstead while allowing for persons with disabilities to access the property freely.

In addition to the walkway, the Township is also pleased to introduce a virtual tour of the entire site, further expanding the Farmstead’s accessibility. The tour is available on new lap-top computers, available to visitors on the first floor. The virtual tour was generously created and donated by the firm of HAAG 3D Forensics in Mt. Laurel. New signage along the walkways will soon enhance the visitor experience.

The Farmhouse will be open for guided tours from noon to 4 p.m., with family-friendly craft activities scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. Refreshments from Springdale Farm will be available as well.
