WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS tonight, we wish to recognize Spencer Levy, a Fox Hollow resident who recently completed 7th grade at Beck Middle School, for his efforts to raise funds for patients at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS when he was just 6 years old, Spencer decided he wanted to do something to support the pediatric hospital, and with the help of his mother, Julie, his “Cookies for Kids” campaign was born; and
WHEREAS what originally began as a Mother’s Day project has grown into a two-month-long annual bake sale, with proceeds from Spencer’s homemade cookies supporting Family Life services and other initiatives at CHOP; and
WHEREAS this year, the “Cookies for Kids” campaign raised more than $1,900 and sold more than 2,000 cookies, and to date, Spencer’s efforts have raised more than $6,500 for the hospital; and
WHEREAS Spencer’s generosity is truly inspiring and serves as a tremendous example for Cherry Hill residents of all ages.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby declare Monday, June 23, 2014 to be
Spencer Levy Day
in the Township of Cherry Hill and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in thanking Spencer for his continued dedication to helping those in need, and for his tireless and selfless efforts to support the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia through Cookies for Kids.
