WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS today, faculty, students and staff at Clara Barton Elementary School have come together to honor, celebrate and thank their principal, Dr. Farrah Shavone Mahan, as she prepares to begin a new position in the Cherry Hill School District; and
WHEREAS a 1999 graduate of Monmouth College, Dr. Mahan began her career in education as a Social Studies teacher in Asbury Park, before moving to Belmar and then Egg Harbor Township on her way to Cherry Hill; and
WHEREAS for the last 10 wonderful years, Dr. Mahan has served as the beloved Principal at Clara Barton Elementary School, where she has set a high standard of excellence, motivated her students and staff, and most importantly, lovingly cared “for all of her blueberries, regardless of how they come”; and
WHEREAS during her tenure, Dr. Mahan has always put Barton’s students first, and brought a level of understanding and caring to her position that will make her hard to replace; and
WHEREAS the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township are proud to honor an educator who has made such a tremendous difference in the lives of those she has touched.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim Monday, June 16, 2014, to be
Dr. Farrah Shavone Mahan Day
in the Township of Cherry Hill, and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in thanking Dr. Mahan for making a difference at Clara Barton for the last 10 years, congratulating her on her new position, and in wishing her, her husband, and her “2 Live Crew” – sons Mason and Montgomery – all the best as they embark upon a new chapter in life together.
