WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and events; and
WHEREAS the Preeclampsia Foundation works to improve the diagnosis, management and prevention of preeclampsia, HELLP syndrome and other hypertensive disorders of pregnancy through research, education and improved healthcare practices; and
WHEREAS these disorders, which affect hundreds of thousands of mothers and infants in America each year, can lead to premature birth and related complications, and are a leading cause of maternal and infant mortality; and
WHEREAS because preeclampsia’s cause is still unknown, public awareness of its signs and symptoms is the best way for women and their medical providers to safely and effectively manage pregnancies; and
WHEREAS Cherry Hill Township is proud to once again host The Promise Walk for Preeclampsia, to raise public awareness of preeclampsia, save lives and ensure the health of mothers and infants everywhere.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim the month of May 2014 to be
Preeclampsia Awareness Month
in the Township of Cherry Hill and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in helping to spread local awareness of the signs and symptoms of preeclampsia and related conditions, and in thanking the organizers of the 2014 Promise Walk for their continued efforts to this end.
