WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS Congregation Sons of Israel was established in Camden, N.J., in January 1894, and in 1971, moved to its current location on Cooper Landing Road in Cherry Hill; and
WHEREAS the synagogue has been, and continues to be, the center of Orthodox Judaism in Southern New Jersey, and through the years has been blessed with esteemed Spiritual Leadership by Rabbis David Shane, Naftoli Riff and Bernard Rothman, Cantor Isaac Horowitz, and current Rabbi Ephraim Epstein; and
WHEREAS Sons of Israel is home to the thriving Politz Day School, located on the Rabbi Bernard Rothman Torah Campus, together with the recently dedicated Mikvah Ohel Leah; and
WHEREAS Sons of Israel has established and sponsors the Cherry K Vaad Hakashruth, the Chevrah Kaddishah, Mikvoit, and the West Side Eruv; and
WHEREAS known for its warmth and sense of communal family, Congregation Sons of Israel continues to thrive 120 years following the synagogue’s establishment.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby wish to commemorate and celebrate
Congregation Sons of Israel
and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in celebrating this joyful milestone, and in wishing Sons of Israel’s spiritual leaders, staff, students and the entire congregation, many more years of joyful worship.
