WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS today, the Macedonia Temple Baptist Church celebrates its 100th anniversary; and
WHEREAS founded by the Rev. John Pratt as the Union Baptist Church in April of 1913 in then-Delaware Township, its charter members met in a building called “The Little Gymnasium” on Chapel Avenue (then known as Whiskey Road); and
WHEREAS the foundation for the current church was laid in October 1914, when Elizabeth Stritzel deeded the land to the Union Baptist Church, and over the next 40 years, the Church continued to grow and take shape; and
WHEREAS the Church experienced new growth under Rev. Julius B. Brown, adding new members, starting annual days, and activating its participating in the Bethany Association, and continues thrive today under Rev. Gregory Rhett; and
WHEREAS the Macedonia Temple Baptist Church remains strong today – after 100 years and 12 pastors – and we join its members in giving thanks for the many men and women who have dedicated their time and talents to the community throughout its history.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby celebrate the 100th anniversary of the
Macedonia Temple Baptist Church
in the Township of Cherry Hill and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in giving thanks for the service and sacrifice of those who have made the Church’s first 100 years possible, and in wishing Pastor Gregory Rhett and the entire congregation a blessed anniversary, and many more centuries of worship to come
