WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS on March 25, 2013, the nation of Greece celebrates its one hundred ninety-second year of independence; and
WHEREAS in declaring their independence from Turkey, the Greek people showed an unwavering will that has characterized them through the ages; and
WHEREAS we, in the United States, are mindful of all that we owe to Greek thought and courage as well as the contributions of Americans of Greek descent; and
WHEREAS Cherry Hill is home to a vibrant Greek-American community that serves as an inspiration to its neighbors and the world; and
WHEREAS we join with the free nations of the world in saluting Greece upon the anniversary of its Independence Day, remembering the important principals of freedom, democracy, and family; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill in the County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim Monday, March 25, 2013 to be
Greek Independence Day
In the Township of Cherry Hill and urge all citizens to join with me and Council in honoring the nation of Greece and our citizens of Greek descent on this joyous occasion.
