WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and events; and
WHEREAS Cherry Hill resident and international best-selling novelist Jack Engelhard has created literature enjoyed by avid readers worldwide; and
WHEREAS best known as the author of “Indecent Proposal,” which became a hit movie, Mr. Engelhard also penned an award-winning memoir, “Escape from Mount Moriah,” and independently published “The Days of the Bitter End,” “The Bathsheba Deadline,” “The Prince of Dice,” “Deadly Deception,” and “Slot Attendant”; and
WHEREAS Engelhard also writes about current event, with a focus on politics and culture; and
WHEREAS today, Mr. Engelhard will lead a discussion of “Escape from Mount Moriah,” the story of his own family’s flight from Nazi-occupied France, with the Friends of the Cherry Hill Library and other interested community members; and
WHEREAS the Mayor and Council wish to Mr. Engelhard for his vast contributions to the literary community.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim March 21, 2013 as
Jack Engelhard Day
in the Township of Cherry Hill and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in recognizing Mr. Engelhard for his vast contributions to American literature.
