WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS Alan Jarvis, a member of Troop 170 in Cherry Hill, has attained the rank of Eagle Scout, joining a prestigious group of young men dedicated to serving and improving the community; and
WHEREAS in addition to earning the rank of Eagle Scout, Alan has obtained a total of 38 badges and served in various leadership positions for Troop 170 including Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Scribe, Quartermaster, Instructor, and Troop Guide; and
WHEREAS for his Eagle Scout project, Alan dedicated over 140 hours of service to designing and building 18 raised bed gardens at Henry C. Beck Middle School, resulting in a greatly enhanced community garden; and
WHEREAS the honor of Eagle Scout is bestowed upon approximately five percent of all Boy Scouts annually, and the lessons and skills this elite group exhibits provide a foundation for these young leaders to continue to lead by example through service throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS the Mayor and Council are proud to call Alan one of Cherry Hill’s own, as he exemplifies the values that make our community strong.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim Sunday, March 10, 2013 to be
Alan F. JarvisEagle Scout Day
in the Township of Cherry Hill and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in recognizing the hard work and commitment required to become an Eagle Scout, and in congratulating Alan on his tremendous achievement. _____________________________Chuck CahnMayorMarch 10, 2013
