Weekly Column: Plenty To Do In Cherry Hill This Summer

The temperatures are rising and summer is just around the corner. While many families may travel down the shore or take a vacation, there is plenty to do right here in Cherry Hill with events and activities for residents of all ages.

For families with young children, the end of school signals the beginning of summer camp. Registration is now open for the Township’s popular Morning Fun Camp, which is run through our recreation department and open to children entering kindergarten through 6th grade. Similarly, we offer many one-week camps in robotics, science, sports, horsemanship and art. We are also proud to offer our popular summer basketball league again this year for children entering grades 2 through 9. In addition to specialty camps, we continue to offer classes in golf, piano, guitar, yoga, karate and tennis for children and adults. A complete list of summer Recreation activities can be found online at

The Cherry Hill Arts Board continues its popular “Luncheon with the Arts for Seniors” series on June 15th at 11:00 am with a screening of Hairspray at the Croft Farms Arts Center. Tickets are $3 in advance or $5 dollars at the door. A pizza and tossed salad lunch will be served before the movie. On Friday July 20th from 10:30 am - 1:00 pm, Tom Del Moore will have a lively performance at the Katz JCC, 1301 Springdale Road. A hot chicken lunch will be served after the performance and tickets are $5 in advance or $8 at the door on the day of the event. For more information about either luncheon sponsored by the Katz JCC or to purchase tickets, contact 856-488-7868 or email

Residents of all ages will enjoy celebrating the 4th of July at the Township’s annual Independence Day festivities presented by Cherry Hill Mall. Music will begin at 8:00 pm at the Michael J Santarpio Field in the Jonas Morris Football Stadium at Cherry Hill High School West, followed by a Fireworks display at 9:00 pm. I am also pleased to have the support of TD Bank and Hampshire Self Storage for this year’s celebration.

You can also enjoy summer nights in Cherry Hill with our free “Music Under the Stars” concerts held at the Barclay Farmstead. We are very excited to start each concert this year with an opening act featuring an ‘up and coming’ music group from our community. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair, blanket and even a picnic dinner to go along with their appetite for great music. Concerts begin at 6:30 pm and will feature the following acts:

• Let Carnaby Street take you on a musical experience of the 1960s on June 17th with songs fondly remembered as the cornerstones for popular music’s favorite era. Their set list features music from the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Who, The Moody Blues, Bob Dylan and The Monkees.
• On July 24th, you’ll be dancing on the front lawn of the farmstead to Big Band and contemporary music performed by the lively Bobby Block Trio. They will have you laughing and clapping along to every song.
• The Wind Symphony of Southern New Jersey will take the stage on July 31st. This group features a woodwind, brass and percussion ensemble that draws its membership from the Delaware Valley. The Wind Symphony’s repertoire includes band classics, new compositions for winds, big band tunes, and pops favorites.

Cherry Hill is also home to a variety of outdoor parks and recreational facilities, including 42 tennis courts, 8 hockey courts, 34 playgrounds and multiple trails, including two that are nationally recognized for you to enjoy. It is also not too late to join one of our 13 private swim clubs. Whether it is history or hiking, basketball or swimming, there is something for everyone to enjoy in Cherry Hill this summer!

In addition to luncheons, concerts, trails and special events, the Township offers a variety of programs and courses throughout the summer. For more information about all Cherry Hill Township events, facilities and activities, visit, email or call 856-488-7868. We hope to see you at one if not many of these events this summer!
