WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS today, friends and loved ones have come together to honor Cherry Hill resident Minnie Kaufman, who celebrates her 100th birthday on April 1; and
WHEREAS born in 1918, Minnie has lived a long and remarkable life, which we are pleased to acknowledge today; and
WHEREAS as an immigrant from Poland in 1925, Minnie attended school in New York where she quickly adapted to her new American life by perfecting her English and reciting poems to her class and others; and
WHEREAS Minnie has consistently demonstrated bravery and strong values. At the age of seven, she moved to America with her family to start a better life. After graduating high school at the age of 17, Minnie married her husband Sidney (z”l) in 1940. The two then raised two successful sons, Daniel (z”l) and David and now she gets to enjoy time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren; and
WHEREAS throughout the years, Minnie has shown she is ahead of her time by entering the workface at a time when women did not work in the business world, working until the age of 78 and continuing to be an inspiration to those around her; and
WHEREAS as a member of the Katz JCC, Minnie fills her days by attending senior classes and swimming three times a week; and
WHEREAS Minnie is an artistic individual, she writes poetry and continues to create abstract paintings which have earned acclaim in juried senior art; and
WHEREAS by all accounts, Minnie is a wonderful person, loved by all who know her, and the Mayor and members of Township Council are happy to join those closest to her in celebrating her long and impressive life well lived; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim Sunday, April 8, 2018, to be
Minnie Kaufman Day
in the Township of Cherry Hill, and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in wishing Minnie the happiest of birthdays as we celebrate this incredible milestone with her, and in wishing him continued health and happiness in the days, months, and years ahead.
