WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS the Boy Scouts of America have been at the forefront of instilling timeless values in youth since its founding in 1910; and
WHEREAS this national youth movement has made serving others through its values-based program its mission; and
WHEREAS the Boys Scouts of America is committed to helping millions of youth succeed by providing the support, friendship, and mentoring necessary to live a happy and fulfilling life; and
WHEREAS continuously chartered since 1968, Troop 170 Boys Scouts in Cherry Hill is celebrating its 50th anniversary; and
WHEREAS one of the major objectives of the Boy Scouting program is to develop citizenship through community involvement and over the last 50 years members of Troop 170 have completed more than 200 service projects locally; and
WHEREAS the Troop has a proud history of service to their sponsor, St. Bartholomeus Episcopal Church, and to the community, with projects ranging from community clean-ups and outdoor classrooms to sanctuaries for those in need; and
WHEREAS they have participated in Jamborees and high adventure trips where scouts learn to hike and sail; and
WHEREAS troop 170 has a strong presence in the Order of the Arrow, which recognizes Scouts who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives; and
WHEREAS eighty-eight Scouts in Troop 170 have earned the rank of Eagle Scout, which is the highest rank in Boy Scouts; and
WHEREAS Troop 170 has a far-reaching positive impact on our community by providing youth with a safe and exciting environment in which to learn the value of citizenship, service, teamwork, fitness and leadership.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim Saturday, February 10, 2018, to be
Boy Scout Troop 170 Day
in Cherry Hill Township, and urge all citizens to join with me, members of Township Council, Boy Scouts of Troop 170, and their families, leaders and volunteers in celebrating the Troop’s 50th Anniversary and applauding the commitment Boy Scouting has made to hundreds of boys and young men here in Cherry Hill.
