WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS today, members of the Cherry Hill Retirees Club wish to celebrate a milestone in the life of their friend and fellow club member, Bernard Finkelstein, who marked his 95th birthday on Monday, July 10, 2017; and
WHEREAS Mr. Finkelstein was born in 1922 in Philadelphia, where he remained through to college at Temple University; and
WHEREAS Mr. Finkelstein enlisted in the United States Army shortly after the start of World War II, where he specialized in logistics and troop movements - a mission that ultimately led him to Antwerp, Germany, and into combat at the Battle of the Bulge; and
WHEREAS upon discharge from the military, Mr. Finkelstein returned to Philadelphia, where he began to work at the paint and wallpaper business founded by his father, and ultimately, rose to become the company’s President and CEO; and
WHEREAS his personal life flourished as well, as he and his wife, Elsie, welcomed two children, daughter Carol and son Alan, followed by four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; and
WHEREAS Bernard and Elsie moved to Cherry Hill in 2000, and Mr. Finkelstein remains an active and vibrant member of our community today, participating in the Retirees Club each week, and maintaining a vibrant social life.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, July 11, 2017, to be
Bernard Finkelstein Day
in the Township of Cherry Hill, and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in wishing Mr. Finkelstein the happiest of birthdays as we celebrate this incredible milestone with him, and in wishing him continued health and joy in the days, months, and years ahead.
