WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and events; and
WHEREAS on Thanksgiving Eve each year, Cherry Hill’s two high school communities come together for the annual East/West Game, a football game played in the spirit of community, tradition and fierce competition; and
WHEREAS this year, Cherry Hill High School West celebrates the 50th anniversary of its Jonas C. Morris Football Stadium, the host site for this year’s East/West Game; and
WHEREAS named for a former Superintendent of Schools, Jonas C. Morris Stadium opened in 1966, and through the years has served as the home field for countless talented young athlete, including undefeated Lions Football teams in 1964 and ’67 – and a 2016 Lions team that has seen a remarkable season; and
WHEREAS this milestone coincides with the installation of a new multi-use turf field at the school – the start of a new chapter in the Stadium’s history, and one which will allow athletes in multiple athletic programs to thrive and succeed for many years to come; and
WHEREAS for these reasons and many others, the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township are proud to join with the administrations of both Cherry Hill High Schools East and West, and Cherry Hill Public Schools to celebrate this wonderful milestone, and to kick off another year of East/West Football.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby wish to commemorate and celebrate the
50th Anniversary Jonas C. Morris Stadium Cherry Hill High School West
in the Township of Cherry Hill, and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in celebrating another year of great competition between our town’s two High School Football programs, as we commemorate 50 years at Cherry Hill High School West’s own stadium.
