The Cherry Hill Fire Department prides itself on finding ways to reduce costs by eliminating outside vendor services, where applicable. While on-duty, CHFD members have undertaken certain services that have traditionally been assigned to outside vendors suchas in-house repairs on small engines, protective equipment repair, HVAC maintenance and technical repair and maintenance of breathing apparatus.
As part of our shared services agreements with Cherry Hill Township, the CHFD purchases gasoline from the Township, shares the Township’s IT services for all our computer and technology needs and splits the salary of the Township’s Emergency Management Director. In coordination with the Township’s Public Works Department, our trash and recycling, parking lot repairs, concrete and tree work are examples of how we contain costs by utilizing Shared Services Agreements.
The BOFC has initiated a successful Motor Maintenance Shared Services Program with surrounding local governments that enables our Motor Maintenance Department to provide apparatus/ambulance repair as well as preventative maintenance services for local outside fire department agencies. Our Motor Maintenance personnel are certified emergency vehicle technicians and recognized for their capabilities on apparatus repair. This service has provided additional revenue for the department.
